BRINGING THE OUTSIDE IN WITH PLANTS

NO MATTER YOUR PERSONAL STYLE OR HOME AESTHETIC EVERY ROOM LOOKS BETTER WITH SOME GREENERY.

Adding plants to your decor goes beyond simply growing it. It is all about how the plants work within your homes greater design scheme. Below is a few of my best plant styling tips for any and all spaces.

1. KNOW YOURSELF

Before choosing specific plants suggest identifying your interests and capabilities. Think about what you’re willing to do to keep a plant healthy. Will you water it regularly? Will the plant need to be moved on occasion to get sunlight?

2. TRACK THE LIGHT

Watch the natural light throughout the day. Pay attention to the type, intensity, and amount of light coming from all the sources. Once you determine if your home offers bright or low light or does it lack light all together. This will help deciding what plant it right for your space.

3. LOOK FOR BLANK SPACE

Plants are perfect for filling spaces that otherwise leave bare. I love how all plants give extra dimension, life, and brightness to a space. I view plants the same way as I do furniture, and accessories: if there is an extra space that is begging for something it’s usually greenery or plants.

4. REMEMBER THE SCALE

The dimensions of your room can impact the size of your plants. Selecting a plant is also about balance. If you have an empty corner, you may need something tall. If you have a bookcase with shelves you may need something in a smaller vase or a low succulent.

5. READ THE SPACE

Slowly scan your space for style guidance. A more formal space may suggest a pair of matching plants to impart balance and stability. A casual room may just need a single plant with a lot of character, or a cluster of three different plants in three different pots.
