Ask yourself
How Do I Actually Cook?
Home cooks approach meal prep in many different ways. Give countertop space to only the tools you use at least once a week. Everything else can go in less accessible areas.
Which Appliances Have I Used Today?
In order for a toaster, blender, or coffee maker to merit a spot on your counter, you need to be using it daily. That fancy stand mixer or food processor is almost certainly and unnecessarily taking up valuable kitchen real estate.
Do I Need More Than One?
Gather all hand tools and sort by type. Do you need two or more spatulas? Many cooks efficiently work with there favorite version of each tool. To begin the purge, toss all that are broken, hard plastic. Keep only cutting tools that are sharp or can be sharpened. Streamline work surfaces by placing as many tools in drawer dividers. Apply a similar clutter-cutting approach to spices, oils, vinegars that often accumulate on countertops.
Do I Have a Landing Zone?
Stand in front of your range, sink, and fridge. You should have at least one clear available spot per area. It’s important to have a clear area for a pan to cool, Dishes to wash, or groceries to be unpacked. Shift utensils and spices into cabinetry. Replace a traditional drying rack to an in sink version.
Floating Shelves
Some slim floating shelves allows you to get little things off the countertop.
Clean in 60 Seconds
You should be able to wipe down or dust your kitchen countertop quickly. Keep editing until you can complete the task in one minute or less.
