Design Trends 2024
10 Design Trends I Expect to See In 2024
As we look toward 2024 together, we’re wondering what will be in store for the interior design world. While it’s impossible to predict the future, keeping a keen eye on trends is all part of the job for interior designers and home decor experts.
Natural Materials
Trends are an interesting thing. If the use of glossy finishes was once incredibly popular, now we are seeing everything more matte. We are seeing more and more use of natural materials, and natural texture of wood. Walnuts and Oaks will be especially respected for its ideal properties for processing, as well as the use of real rough stone. Natural woods will be in furniture, wall decoration, decorative panels and panels, decor and even dishes.
Bathroom Wallpaper
Traditional bathrooms are small, isolated spaces where you can experiment with unique design ideas and not be afraid that they will affect the rest of the interior. Why not try something bright and fresh? After all, a small area will allow you not to go broke on expensive materials.
You can add bright texture tiles to the “wet” area and designer wallpapers with flowers or abstraction to the “dry” area (however, it is important that the room is well ventilated). Try to complement the interiors with unique accessories that add an element of surprise. Open the door – and find yourself in a world of luxury and beauty, which contributes to complete relaxation and gives the joy of life, new ideas and strength for accomplishments.
Decorative Bathroom Vassal Bowls
In 2023, we have already seen designers’ timid attempts to freshen up the traditional white color of sinks. No wonder such a charming trend has found its way to the hearts of lovers of beautiful interiors. It also turned out that the painted shells are quite affordable and, if desired, you can afford such a new thing. The idea is more important here. It is better to study style references or go to a professional ceramic artist who has his own particular style.
Kohler has my favorite collection of Artison sinks. Actually, the one I have attached I am putting into one of my Naples clients Main bathroom in the house they are building. This Kohler sink is etched in natural stone, Kensho is a vibrant marriage of strength and beauty, Eastern motifs and Western artistic techniques. The sensuous curves of smooth carved stone reveal a patchwork of Japanese sashiko kimono patterns depicting organic elements such as waves, mountains, and bamboo. Inspired by a 15th-century Italian technique known as acquaforte, artisans etch textural patterns into the surface, creating a sense of movement across the stone. The etched patterns are then brought to life using a champagne-gold metallic finish. This labor-intensive handcrafted process, wrought on natural stone, makes each Kensho sink unique – and a stunning statement piece for the bath.
Individual Design
We’ve seen so much minimalism over the past few years that more people are now craving warmth, depth and character in their personal spaces. Already popular in 2023, vintage, maximalism and grand millennialism are not going to disappear. They are becoming a powerful trend that can no longer be ignored. To bring such non-trivial ideas to life, unique experience is required, for example, individual furniture production.
Quality & American Made
Many of our peers agree that 2024 will be the year of sustainability in interior design. Consumers are becoming more mindful of eco-friendly options, and rightly so. People are increasingly asking “where is it made,” “how is it made,” “what is it made of.”
Many will start to move away from inexpensive furniture made from dubious materials like chipboard and start investing more in quality products made from materials like wood or high quality MDF. furniture that will stand the test of time. Instead of buying something cheap and seasonal, consumers will be more selective about furniture in order to preserve the appearance for years to come and even pass it down.
High Performance Fabrics
The challenge for many designers is to create beautiful and livable spaces – especially for families with young children, pets or very busy lifestyles. One of the main requests of buyers is beautiful and practical fabrics. Restoration Hardware has a beautiful variety of high-performance fabrics and was my go-to in 2023.
The textile industry does not stand still. Many options are now emerging that mimic the look of natural linen, velvet and textured fabrics, but they are designed for outdoor use and are stain and UV resistant. Carpets made of natural materials that can be washed in a washing machine have already appeared (pay attention to the Spanish washable carpets), and now upholstery and curtain fabrics with high performance are entering the active phase.
Warm Tones
We can all agree that warm neutrals are back in a big way, but Susan Hayward, founder of Susan Hayward Interiors, says 2024 will be all about how they’re incorporated into our spaces.
In kitchen cabinetry we have been seeing a trend in more warmer grays and whites paints. As well as people shifting more towards warmer wood tones.
With countertops in 2022 ice burg quartzite was what everyone wanted; and in 2023 I started seeing people shift more towards the warmer toned quartzite material and way more matte/honed finishes than the shine.
Bold Ceilings
Ceilings can often be overlooked, but just as we choose paint colors or textures for the walls, we can’t forget the space above our heads, which plays a crucial role in the design. I work closely with one builder and after we design the kitchen the ceiling is next to get laid out and is just important.
I will be doing another blog this year to showcase another project I am working on but we are doing these beautiful arched wood beams that will span across there Livingroom ceiling. We are having them made into New York and shipped to Chicago.
Soft Modern Kitchens
We can still expect modern designs to feel simple and sleek but that showcase more personality, color, and warmth. I think we can still expect multiple of element: metal, wood, stone, glass, fabric.
While 2023 may have introduced us to quiet luxury, Jeffers says 2024 will take it up a notch with cozy opulence.
Expect a trend that acts as a tribute to opulence and rich materials yet prioritizes warmth and comfort—think luxury homes that feel timeless and lived-in, with warm colors and cozy textures.
Blending Eras
Dan Mazzarini, the principal and creative director of BHDM Design, is noticing a shift toward the traditional that we’ll see more and more of next year. Expect it to appear in a few ways—including antique statement pieces in modern homes.
Jennifer Verruto, the founder and CEO of Blythe Interiors, agrees, noting this should be done boldly and unapologetically.
